What is included

What does roof repair cover?

  • Leaks traced to their source, then repaired.
  • Damaged or missing shingles, tile and membrane.
  • Flashing, skylights, and the wood sheathing or fascia a repair uncovers.
  • Storm damage, photographed before the repair starts.
  • Before and after photos attached to the job.

Emergencies

When is it an emergency?

Water coming through the roof into an occupied unit is an emergency. There is no emergency response target yet, so HQ calls back to say whether 1Stop can cover it, and the first visit is about stopping the water. The permanent repair is scoped and scheduled after.

If the water has already soaked drywall, insulation or flooring, send emergency restoration as well, so drying starts while the roofer works on the source. A worn or damaged roof that is not leaking yet is standard work: 48 hours.

Roof work that can wait is best booked before June 1. That is when the Atlantic hurricane season starts, and it runs to November 30, according to NOAA's National Hurricane Center.

Licensing

What license does a vendor need in Florida?

General information, not legal advice.

Florida licenses roofing contractors under section 489.105(3)(e) of the Florida Statutes. The license covers installing, maintaining, repairing, altering, extending and designing all kinds of roofing, waterproofing and coating, along with skylights, required roof-deck attachments and any wood sheathing or fascia that has to be repaired or replaced during the job.

Coating counts as roofing too, unless it is not represented as protecting, repairing, waterproofing, stopping leaks in or extending the life of the roof.

A certified roofing contractor can work anywhere in Florida, while a registered one can work only in the local jurisdiction its registration covers. Either can be checked at myfloridalicense.com.

Any Florida license can be checked by name or number on the state's Verify a Licensee search at myfloridalicense.com.
