What is included

What does pest control cover?

  • Recurring treatment of units and common areas, on a schedule.
  • One-off calls for roaches, ants, rodents and bed bugs.
  • Lawn and ornamental treatment, where the company's certified operator holds that category.
  • After photos attached to each visit.

Emergencies

When is it an emergency?

Pest control is not dispatched as an emergency. A one-off call has a 48-hour target in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, and recurring service runs on its schedule.

Sealing the way in is a separate job. A gap under a door or a hole in drywall goes to general maintenance, and a leak that keeps a space damp goes to plumbing.

Licensing

What license does a vendor need in Florida?

General information, not legal advice.

Florida licenses pest control through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, not DBPR, under chapter 482 of the Florida Statutes. Section 482.071 makes it unlawful to run a pest control business the department has not licensed, and the license is issued for each business location and renewed every year.

Each licensed location must have a certified operator in charge, certified in the categories of work done there (section 482.111): general household pest control, termites and other wood-destroying organisms, lawn and ornamental pest control, and fumigation. Every employee who performs pest control must carry a department identification card (section 482.091).

The license comes with an insurance floor of its own. Section 482.071(4) requires bodily injury coverage of $250,000 per person and $500,000 per occurrence and property damage coverage of $250,000 per occurrence and $500,000 in the aggregate, or a combined single limit of $500,000.

A pest control business license or operator certificate can be checked on the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' license search search at aeslicensing.fdacs.gov.
