What is included

What does garage door repair cover?

  • Door sections, rollers, tracks and hinges repaired or replaced.
  • Springs and cables replaced.
  • Opener, safety sensors and remotes repaired or replaced.
  • Before and after photos attached to the job.

Emergencies

When is it an emergency?

Garage door repair is scheduled, not dispatched as an emergency. It is booked to a date that suits the property.

Wiring faults go to their own trade: a tripped circuit or a dead outlet at the garage goes out as electrical, and sparking at the opener goes out as electrical, marked Emergency.

Licensing

What license does a vendor need in Florida?

General information, not legal advice.

Florida's board has set up a certified garage door installation specialty, and Rule 61G4-15.100 of the Florida Administrative Code gives its scope as fabricating, assembling, erecting, installing, adjusting, repairing and servicing garage doors, including the related hardware and operating devices. Section 489.113(6)(a) of the Florida Statutes says a certified specialty category exists as a voluntary statewide licensing category and does not create a mandatory licensing requirement.

The rule lets this contractor install low voltage wiring for safety features and cord and cap connections to the devices, motors and equipment. Any other electrical work related to the door, including wire removal or rewiring and installing receptacles, lights and switches, has to be subcontracted to a licensed electrical contractor.

Section 489.117(4)(a) of the Florida Statutes bars a local government from requiring a license for a job scope that does not substantially correspond to a state contractor category or a certified specialty. Because garage door installation is a certified specialty, a city or county may still require a local license for it.

Any Florida license can be checked by name or number on the state's Verify a Licensee search at myfloridalicense.com.

Questions

Questions about garage door repair.

Does a garage door vendor need a license in Florida?

The state's garage door license is voluntary. Section 489.113(6)(a) of the Florida Statutes says certified specialty categories do not create a mandatory licensing requirement. A city or county may still require its own license under section 489.117(4)(a).

Can the garage door vendor rewire the opener circuit?

Not under the garage door specialty. Rule 61G4-15.100 of the Florida Administrative Code allows low voltage safety wiring and cord and cap connections, and says other electrical work, such as rewiring or installing receptacles, lights and switches, is subcontracted to a licensed electrical contractor.
