What is included

What does fencing cover?

  • Fence panels, posts and rails repaired or replaced to match the existing run.
  • Gates rehung, with hinges, latches and closers repaired or replaced.
  • Short sections of new fence where a run is missing or beyond repair.
  • Before and after photos attached to the job.

Emergencies

When is it an emergency?

Fencing is scheduled, not dispatched as an emergency. A fence repair is booked to a date that suits the property.

A tree down across a fence line goes out as tree trimming and removal, and a limb that has hit a roof goes out as roof repair, marked Emergency if water is coming in. The fence is booked once the tree is cleared.

Licensing

What license does a vendor need in Florida?

General information, not legal advice.

Fence work is not one of the contractor categories that section 489.105 of the Florida Statutes licenses. Section 489.117(4)(a) of the Florida Statutes lets a local government keep offering a license for fence installation and erection if it imposed that requirement before January 1, 2021, so a city or county may still ask for a local license.

Section 515.29 of the Florida Statutes sets the rules for a residential swimming pool barrier. A residential pool is one on the premises of a detached one-family or two-family dwelling or a one-family townhouse not more than three stories high. At such a pool the barrier must be at least 4 feet high on the outside and may not have gaps, openings or components that could let a young child crawl under, squeeze through or climb over it.

Gates that give access to such a pool must open outward away from the pool, be self-closing, and have a self-latching locking device whose release is on the pool side of the gate, placed so a young child cannot reach it over the top or through any opening. This page makes no claim about the pools at apartment communities.

Any Florida license can be checked by name or number on the state's Verify a Licensee search at myfloridalicense.com.

Questions

Questions about fencing.

Does a fencing vendor need a license in Florida?

Not a state one. Section 489.117(4)(a) of the Florida Statutes allows a local government to keep licensing fence installation and erection if it did so before January 1, 2021, so a city or county license may apply depending on where the property is.

What does Florida require of a gate at a pool?

At a residential pool, meaning one at a detached one-family or two-family dwelling or a one-family townhouse up to three stories, section 515.29 of the Florida Statutes requires a gate that opens outward away from the pool, closes by itself and latches by itself, with the release on the pool side out of a young child's reach.
