What does dryer vent cleaning cover?
- Lint cleared from the vent run between the dryer and the outdoor termination.
- The vent checked for damage, crushing or restriction.

Emergencies
When is it an emergency?
Dryer vent cleaning is never dispatched as an emergency. It is booked to a date.
Smoke or sparking at a dryer or its outlet is not a cleaning call. It goes out as electrical, marked Emergency, and a vent that is damaged or has pulled apart goes out as general maintenance.
Licensing
What license does a vendor need in Florida?
General information, not legal advice.
Cleaning a dryer vent is not one of the contractor categories that section 489.105 of the Florida Statutes licenses. The sheet metal definition in section 489.105(3)(d) covers duct cleaning of air-handling systems, which is a different system from a dryer exhaust.
The reason to schedule it is fire safety. The US Fire Administration reports that failure to clean (31%) was the leading factor contributing to the ignition of clothes dryer fires in homes from 2018 to 2020, citing the National Fire Incident Reporting System. Its dryer safety tips include checking that the venting behind the dryer is not damaged, crushed or restricted, and making sure the outdoor vent covering opens when the dryer is operating.
Any Florida license can be checked by name or number on the state's Verify a Licensee search at myfloridalicense.com.

Questions
Questions about dryer vent cleaning.
Does a dryer vent cleaner need a license in Florida?
Not a contractor license. Dryer vent cleaning is not a category that section 489.105 of the Florida Statutes licenses, and the duct cleaning in the sheet metal definition applies to air-handling systems, not dryer exhaust.
Why clean dryer vents on a schedule?
The US Fire Administration names failure to clean as the leading factor in the ignition of home clothes dryer fires from 2018 to 2020, at 31%. A scheduled visit keeps the vent run from going unchecked.
