What do Gainesville-area lawn rules ask of a landscaping crew?
Alachua County's fertilizer ordinance bars fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus from July 1 through February 28.
Phosphorus is barred all year unless a soil or tissue test confirms a deficiency, and no fertilizer goes on when the soil is saturated, before heavy rain, or within 30 days of seeding or sodding.
None goes within 10 feet of a waterbody, or 3 feet with a deflector shield, and any that spills on a sidewalk, driveway or street is cleaned up at once rather than washed into a storm drain. The rules apply countywide.
Alachua County lies wholly or partly in the St. Johns River Water Management District, whose year-round rule bans lawn watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and sets the days by the address: two a week in daylight saving time, one in standard time.
