The county

Alachua grew 4.1% between 2020 and 2025.
Alachua County borders seven other counties in 1Stop's region: Bradford, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Putnam and Union. The application takes every Florida county you will drive to, so list them all.

Student housing and the academic calendar
Gainesville is home to the University of Florida and to Santa Fe College, which says more than 18,000 students take credit classes there.
UF's off-campus housing guide tells students to make sure a lease's move-in date falls before classes begin and its move-out date after finals are over. Where leases follow that advice, move-outs arrive together, and so do the turns that follow them. Book turnover crews early for those weeks.
Getting set up
What does a vendor need to work in Alachua County?
Alachua County no longer levies a county business tax. The county commission repealed it, and an Alachua County business tax receipt is no longer required. A city inside the county can still levy its own, under section 205.042 of the Florida Statutes.
A contractor the state licenses through DBPR that has paid the business tax where its business is based owes no other city or county a business tax for temporary work there (section 205.065).
Building permits for unincorporated Alachua County go through the county's Growth Management Building Division. It permits the unincorporated county and several of its cities.
A registered contractor can work only where its registration applies, so for work here it has to cover Alachua County; a certified one works anywhere in Florida. 1Stop holds the license on file in the licensed trades, with a certificate of insurance and a W-9 for everyone.

Landscaping and irrigation
When can a lawn be watered in Alachua County?
Alachua County's fertilizer ordinance bars fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus from July 1 through February 28.
Phosphorus is barred all year unless a soil or tissue test confirms a deficiency, and no fertilizer goes on when the soil is saturated, before heavy rain, or within 30 days of seeding or sodding.
None goes within 10 feet of a waterbody, or 3 feet with a deflector shield, and any that spills on a sidewalk, driveway or street is cleaned up at once rather than washed into a storm drain. The rules apply countywide.
Part of Alachua County lies in the St. Johns River Water Management District, whose year-round rule bans watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and sets the days by the address: two a week in daylight saving time, one in standard time.
Part of Alachua County lies in the Suwannee River Water Management District.
